The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle is a classic spring story for preschoolers and young children to learn the life cycle of a butterfly. I love this for the spring because it shows how things change and become new in the spring.
I like doing activities with The Very Hungry Caterpillar and the life cycle of the butterfly in the spring and this book fits in perfectly!
Spring is Here By Will Hillenbrand
Spring is Here is an adorable story of Mole trying to get his friend Bear to wake up for spring. We all know that after a long hibernation, some bears may need an extra tug and pull to wake up.
Luckily for this Bear, he has his friend Mole to help him out. Your kids will get a kick out of seeing all the different tactics that Mole tries to wake up Bear. But, will he ever wake up? This fiction story makes teaching the nonfiction facts about bears hibernating in the winter easy and fun!
Kite Day: A Bear and Mole Story By Will Hillenbrand
Bear and Mole are two characters great for preschoolers! In this story, the weather is perfect for a kite day! Your preschooler will enjoy this adorable spring story of characters they may already know going on a “Kite Day”!
When Spring Comes By Kevin Henkes
I can’t wait to write a blog post full of Kevin Henkes and his wonderful books for primary learners. If you haven’t heard of Kevin Henkes he has a whole series of books about mice that have human qualities. Throughout his stories, he teaches children about different social situations they may go through.
In this book, Kevin describes the changes to young readers and learners that come with waiting for spring. When spring comes, the trees blossom, and the snow melts. Your toddler will love learning about what happens when spring comes.
The Tiny Seed By Eric Carle
What happens to a tiny seed when it leaves a flower? Your preschooler will learn about nature and how a tiny seed can travel to become a plant somewhere else. This is the perfect spring book for preschoolers as they begin to learn about plants and growing flowers.
The Rainy Day By Anna Milbourne
In this book, your preschooler will learn that the plants and animals depend on the rain for their needs. The illustrations in this book are vibrant and this book will quickly become a favorite!
Plippity Plop go the Little Raindrops By Rebecca Rae Baldwin
This sweet book is perfect for a child’s innocence and imagination! It’s also perfect for learning about onomatopoeia, using words to describe sounds a type of figurative language.
You can incorporate it into many different lessons including teaching text-to-text connections with “The Rainy Day”, figurative language or make a letter sound hunt using the short vowel sounds throughout the title and story.
Bear Wants More By Karma Wilson
Another series of books about a bear and his friends. In this story, Bear is just waking up from his long winter nap. He is starving from his slumber and looking for more to eat. If your preschooler is anything like mine they won’t have trouble making a connection to this sweet story!
It pairs well with “Spring is Here!” and would be great for adding in a lesson on text-to-text connections.
Lola Plants a Garden By Anna McQuinn
Lola is a little girl that has a love of books and family. She loves to learn about all the things she wants to do in life.
You can find Lola doing a variety of things like getting a car, reading to her brother, or going to the library. However, in this story, Lola learns how to plant a garden. She learns that planting a garden takes a lot of care.
