Please let me know in the comments below what your favorite Valentine’s Day books are for babies and toddlers!

Busy & Bright Baby Hug Kiss Love

My 1-year-old adores this sweet series of books! It’s full of fun lift the flaps and bright pictures, perfect for little hands!

This book is simple enough to help support language development. It also allows for the parent to add in other descriptive words throughout the book.

Little Blue Truck’s Valentine By Alice Schertle

Little Blue Truck is a sweet story of a book with rhymes and car sounds. If your baby or toddler loves the first book, I have no doubt that Little Blue Truck’s Valentine will quickly become another favorite!

I Love You (Baby Touch and Feel) By DK

These touch and feel books a perfect sensory tool for babies and toddlers! I love this one because it works outside of the “holiday” as well. These books are also small enough to throw in your diaper bag for on the go entertainment.

Llama Llama I Love You By Anna Dewdney

Another book in this adorable series about baby Llama and his patient momma! My 1-year-old loves the baby llama in this series.

I love them because they do tell a story and it’s a great way to start introducing toddlers to books with more of a plot. In this book the baby llama and his momma are making, giving, and sending Valentines to friends and family.

Where Is Baby’s Valentine? By Karen Katz

I love Karen Katz for baby books! She has a way of capturing babies and toddlers that makes them want to engage with her books.

Throughout her books, she uses the same type of illustrations (which of course) includes a lot of pictures of babies! She also includes fun lift-the-flaps that help create a sense of peek-a-boo for little readers.

Babies Love Valentines Lift-a-Flap Book

This book gives babies and young toddlers a lot of context to help support language development about different holidays. In this book they will learn about different traditions of the Valentine’s holiday.

It has big chunky lift-the-flaps that help little ones with staying engaged and using their fine motor skills throughout the book.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Mouse! By Laura Numeroff

I love these books, if for anything my own memories! I’ve loved this little mouse since the original “If you Give a Mouse a Cookie” years ago! This time the mouse is back making valentine cards for each of his friends.

I like how the mouse thinks about each friend and what kind of valentine they would enjoy. Its a great way to open up discussion about others, with young children.

Guess How Much I Love You By Sam McBratney

Guess How Much I Love You, is a classic! I think when we had my first son he was gifted at least three of these books! It’s for good reason. The young one in this book is trying to show his mom how much he loves her.

I always make sure I pull out books like this at this time of year to expand on the conversation of love in our home.

Huggy Kissy By Leslie Patricelli

Our family was first introduced to Leslie Patricelli’s books with her book titled “Potty”. It features the same baby in that book like this one. They aren’t full of words that could be off-putting for some families, but my husband and I really enjoy the creativity these books allow!

I Like You More Than Ice Cream By Brick Puffington

What baby doesn’t love a good puppet book? I know my kids do! This book allows the parent to make the ice cream come alive as a cute little sundae!

Hug Machine By Scott Campbell

Okay, I’ll be honest I don’t know much about Scott Campbell or his book Hug Machine, but I think it looks adorable! It’s a funny little story about a boy who is a “hug machine” and how he gives hugs to all!

I Love You, Little Pookie By Sandra Boynton

I couldn’t write a list about books for babies and toddlers without including a Sandra Boynton book on the list! She has wonderful stories for babies and toddlers.

They are quite funny as a parent reading them as well. I’ll be honest that my youngest didn’t take to her books as well as my oldest (although I still read them to him anyways).

Kiss, Kiss, Pout-Pout Fish By Deborah Diesen

Pout-pout fish is a book series for babies and toddlers. We have this one and my kids enjoy it! It shows all the ways you can tell someone “I love you”.

What’s your favorite way to say it?

Little People Valentine’s Day is Here!

We have this book for every holiday! My kids love these book! They are fun “i-spy” and lift the flap books. I like how they teach young children about different holidays and give them some ideas of holiday traditions.

How Do I Love You? By Caroline Jayne Church

I’m going to round out this list with another one of my favorite author’s for this age group, Caroline Jayne Church. I can always tell if a book is written by her just by seeing the cover! We have several of her books!

I love that they give pictures of young children and babies so my kids feel like they can relate to them. They also provide rhythm and rhyme.

Hi, I'm Ashley E!

I teach moms and teachers how to inspire a love of reading in the early years. I live in Ohio with my husband & two boys. Our favorite places to be are at the beach & Disney World. But most of the time you’ll find me at school teaching, working out in our basement, or blogging at home. So grab your favorite cup of coffee, tea, or (if you’re at all like me) water & let’s go through this thing called life together.
